Highland Park High School is committed to making an effort to reduce the amount of traffic traveling around our campus. We encourage all senior students to participate in the Carpool Incentive Program.
Incentives:
Discounted permits
1 extra SENIOR student, 10% off full parking price ($360 reduced to $324)
2 extra SENIOR students, 20% off full parking price ($360 reduced to $288)
3 extra SENIOR students, 30% off full parking price ($360 reduced to $252)
The following is an update regarding the Highland Park Student Parking Permit areas. In the near future, we will be eliminating the St. Johns North City Lot (entrance located at St. Johns Avenue and Park Avenue) as a Student Parking Permit area. This is due to little use since the addition of the First Street Student parking area which the City added during the HPHS construction projects the last few years. This location, on the east side of First Street between the Shell Gas Station and McDonalds) has become the preferred and highly utilized location by Student Parking Permit holders due to the close proximity to HPHS). The following locations can still be used for Student Parking Permit parking by HPHS students.
North Side of First Street (between the Shell Gas Station and McDonalds on the east side of the street in designated areas, approximately 30 spaces)
1987 Second Street Lot, - 32 total spaces
Moraine Park Lot at 2501 Sheridan Road in designated areas- approximately 12 to 15 spaces
If you have any questions, please contact the Highland Park Police Department. Find more information and the application on the City of HP website.
This program is not a behind-the-wheel driving course. This program is designed to teach HPHS student drivers to be aware of the parking rules, procedures and expectations of driving around HPHS. This 40-minute class is MANDATORY if you intend to park at the High School. It is free of charge and will be in Terry’s office.
At the end of class, you will receive your certificate. We suggest you take a picture of it with your phone.
Due to limited parking spots available, parking is only available to seniors on a first-come, first-served basis. It is MANDATORY that all students who plan on parking at HPHS take the GIANT Parking Program. You will NOT be able to submit your application without uploading your certificate of completion.
The maps below indicate where staff and students can park during the school day. Sections outlined in red are reserved for staff while sections in blue are reserved for students.
If a student needs to drive a different vehicle to school for a day or short-term, they must send an email to Terry Joiner at tjoiner@dist113.org. The following information must be provided:
Car
Make/Model
Color
License Plate
Dates that the car will be driven to school
Once the information is emailed, the temporary parking permit can be picked up from the Deans Office in A222.
Township High School District 113 is committed to providing a safe learning environment for all students and staff. Please see below for our security procedures.
Upon entering the school’s secure vestibule, visitors are required to present a driver’s license or other valid government-issued identification to enter our Lobby Guard Front Desk system. The ID is scanned and checked against a nationwide database of registered sex offenders. If a potential threat is identified, the LobbyGuard System instantly alerts designated officials, such as administrators and law enforcement. In these cases, visitors are denied access to the building.
To ensure that our visitors are readily identifiable, visitors cleared by the LobbyGuard system must leave their ID at the entrance and wear a school-issued name badge and lanyard that must be visibly worn while in the school and returned to the security vestibule upon leaving. Upon leaving, the school-issued badge will be exchanged for the visitor's picture ID. This enables us to keep track of all visitors and ensures that everyone checks out through the secure vestibule and returns their visitor badge upon leaving.
Visitors having an appointment without the ability to possess a valid picture ID will be escorted to and from their appointment by member(s) of the security staff.
Thank you for helping to keep our schools safe, and please contact the school building security manager if you have questions or concerns.
It is imperative that we all adhere to the rules to ensure safety, regardless of whether a police officer is present. Parents/guardians may need to allow more time on inclement weather days, when traffic is heavier around HPHS.
As a reminder, the following are permitted drop-off/pickup locations:
The Vine Avenue visitor and staff parking lot, which opened last fall--Pull in from east- or west-bound Vine, drop your student(s) off along the north and west boundaries of the lot, then exit onto southbound St. Johns. Students dropped off in this location are asked to utilize the sidewalk that leads to the supervised crosswalk to cross Vine Avenue.
West Lot—Access the drop-off/pickup lane off of Vine Avenue east of Green Bay Road.
North side of Vine Avenue – This area directly in front of the school on westbound Vine Avenue has been designated for drop off/pickup only between 7-9 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. You must pull over to the curb for drop-off/pickup. Drop-offs/pickups are not permitted in this area outside of these designated times. Unattended vehicles are subject to a $50 citation.
North Lot—Access the drop-off/pickup lane only off St. Johns. There is no access from Vine into the student lot. Use the marked drop-off/pick-up lane. Do not pull into the circle drive.
Tip: Peak traffic hours around HPHS are 8:00-8:45 a.m. for drop-off and 2:50-3:15 p.m. for pickup. Arriving before 8 a.m. for drop off or after 3:15 p.m. for pick-up can significantly reduce your time spent waiting in traffic. Allow more time on inclement weather days.
Parents/guardians needing to drop off lunches, books and other student items during the school day: Please park in the visitors section of the Vine Lot and leave items at the Security Desk just inside the front door of the school. It is illegal to park in the fire lane in front of HPHS, even just for a moment.
REMINDER: To maintain safety for pedestrians and reduce traffic congestion, parking, stopping, or standing on Vine, St. Johns or Maple avenues is prohibited by City Code between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. and carries a $50 fine. In addition, drivers obstructing traffic are subject to $120 traffic citations. You may also receive a ticket for:
Disobeying the no-parking/permit parking restrictions posted on Woodpath by using it as a pick-up/drop-off area
Parking in the drop-off area directly in front of the school on westbound Vine
Making a U-turn on Vine Avenue at any time
Standing, stopping, dropping off/picking up or parking on the south side of Vine, including areas and streets directly east of HPHS and the Vine/St. Johns intersection. The only areas where drop-offs and pick-ups are allowed on or around the HPHS campus are on the attached map; everywhere else is illegal and subject to ticketing.
Obstructing/blocking or parking in a resident’s driveway or driveway apron
Hand-held cell phone use while driving
Our school is in a residential neighborhood, so please make every effort to be respectful of our neighbors’ property. This includes not using driveways as turnaround points. Thank you for helping us to keep our campus safe and improve traffic flow for the benefit of all!
