Fine Arts

Overview

The Highland Park High School Fine and Applied Arts Department fosters creativity, critical thinking and real-world readiness through a diverse range of performance-based, visual and technical courses. From Instrumental Music, Vocal Performance, Dance, Theater and Visual Arts to Business Principles, Engineering/Project Lead The Way and Family and Consumer Sciences, students are empowered to explore their passions while building essential life and career skills. Our programs cultivate social and emotional well-being, encourage artistic expression and provide hands-on experiences that promote financial literacy, technological proficiency, personal wellness and career preparation. Through this integrated approach, students grow as innovative, expressive and capable individuals prepared for both college and the workplace.

Patrons of the Arts

Through the generosity of donations to Patrons of the Arts, Visual, Theater and Performing Arts students are able to receive the financial support they need and so richly deserve. Opportunities include but are not limited to student learning through workshops, festivals, and performances; scholarships for lessons, intensive programs with guest clinicians and artists during and outside of the school year are also means by which students may grow their artistic abilities. We celebrate all you continue to do visibly and financially for our meritorious students!

Business

Overview

Highlights of these courses include operating a student-run business and earning a real paycheck, pursuing college credit, working with community business mentors to grow and launch a real business, and a field trip to the Lake County courtrooms, jail and coroner's office.

The International Business Principles class (La clase de Principios de negocios internacionales) teaches topics such as personal finance, investments, globalization and international marketing, allowing students to improve their bilingual, bicultural and biliterate skills in real-world settings.

Engineering

Overview

The Engineering and Architecture program prepares students for a world of rapidly changing technology. Through a robust program of courses, the engineering curriculum prepares students for both professional and personal endeavors in technology. In these project-based courses, students will develop an innovative and problem-solving mindset while pursuing professional and personal goals. The rich curriculum connects students to the core content areas in a collaborative lab-based environment, teaching students the skills and knowledge that they will need to adapt to new technology as it unfolds.
