College Bound Opportunities and Schuler Scholars

College Bound Opportunities and Schuler Scholars

Highland Park High School is proud to partner with two programs that prepare and assist students with the college process: College Bound Opportunities and Schuler Scholars.

College Bound Opportunities

College Bound Opportunities (CBO) mentors, empowers and inspires low income, first- generation Scholars to overcome barriers, graduate college and achieve success. CBO Scholars receive individualized support through junior and senior year of high school, guidance through each step of the college application process and continued guidance throughout college. College Scholars receive weekly 1:1 check-ins, access to summer employment opportunities and summer workshops devoted to building skills necessary to gain employment after college.

Once accepted to CBO, each Scholar is carefully matched with a mentor which spans throughout their 6 years in the program, often building relationships that last beyond college graduation.

To qualify for CBO, students must be sophomores in high school, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and a strong desire to attend a four-year college. Applications are available April 1.

To learn more about CBO, please visit our website.

Schuler Scholar Program

The Schuler Scholar Program equips high-achieving and underrepresented students to gain access to and succeed at highly selective colleges and beyond. Schuler Scholars are typically first-generation college-bound, are students of color, or come from low-income families. To date, Schuler has helped more than 1,600 first-generation students, students of color, and low-income students in Chicago and Milwaukee on their path to college and beyond.

In 2009, Highland Park High School was selected by the Schuler Family Foundation to become a partner in the Schuler Scholar program. To date, the Schuler Program at HPHS has celebrated over 50 students matriculating to highly-selective colleges and universities. During their time in high school, Schuler provides one-on-one coaching to support and enrich students in their work. Families and Scholars participate in college visits and work one-on-one with our College Counselor through the entire college application process.
